Day Nineteen

A fairly relaxed start to the day, we were both tired from running around lots yesterday. We went to the RTA (Road Transport Authority i think) to get our drivers licenses updated. I thought I had to do mine within 3 months of arrival but apparently its now 6 months in NSW and the bloke was laid back and just said come back in six months time.

I've found that a lot here, everyone is so laid back about everything, I think one of the big things is lack of security checking on anything. I obviously wont go into too much detail but ID checks and methods of security are not as tight as blighty.

After the RTA we hit IKEA...now I could have quite as easily have been stood in IKEA Croydon or Brent park as they are absolutely identical the world over, trawl round the maze above and then come downstairs and pick up lots of things cos they are a bargain. Oh yeah and then queue forever and find you have spent too much. We were quite restrained I have to say though.

We went back to the house to show Bill and Carol round, before that we checked out our new local

Its here

I would like to say its an exciting website with lots of pics, but alas not. Anyway the pub is no more that 90 seconds walk from our front door, it seems quite good inside and has a Greek restaurant upstairs so may become a favourite in time.

We also caught up with Michael & Michael and Andrew in the pub and showed them round the place.

Tomorrow we await delivery of our fridge, sofa and TV. That's cool as we can then hire a van (well actually a 'Ute' with a big cage) on back and move some stuff from Bill and Carols on Saturday and move in proper.

One other thing Ive noticed and been meaning to add to blog and it's just come to mind for some reason, there's odd rules no one can explain to me..for instance, if you park on street you have to park in direction of traffic, so you can not park opposite facing wrong direction. When I ask why this is everyone just says that's the rules but no one knows why, god forbid you park the wrong way, we might get struck by lightning or something...its just at odds with the general laid back approach to life everywhere else which I mentioned!

More tomorrow readers....

  1. Had you been to the Excelsior before writing this post by any chance? Random chunks of text in weird places, unless it's my browser :)

  3. the parking rules say you have to park less than a certain distance from the curb. So if you're facing the wrong way then you are too far away from the curb ... on the other side.

Think of how weird we find it here where people park all over the damn shop
