Day Four Hundred and Forty Four

Monday

Got into work at about 9.30, did a few write up's of issues and then really didn't do much productive for the rest of the day. Left early and headed into town and bought a few things wedding related.

Came home cooked a steak meal and we skyped folks.

Still tired after the weekend

Day Four Hundred and Forty Three

Sunday

Phoned event control at 7.20am and was there by 8am. Spent all morning loading up equipment and we then went back to office. Drove in convoy of 10 trucks/vans back to hire place to drop them all back.

Came home at 4pm ish. Had a takeaway dinner in Willoughby before heading home to Newtown late evening. Kate drove as I was knackered.

Day Four Hundred and Forty Two

Saturday

Up and out of the house by about 8.30. Spent much of morning floating around checkpoints and the finish and also keeping an eye on my lunch catering crew, you know who you are ;-).

Dealt with some fall out form previous nights events too

In the afternoon/evening I was the event logistics coordinator which was cool. Had a few issues to resolve.

Left the event at about 9.30 to get home for sleep.

Day Four Hundred and Forty One

Friday

Got up at 4.20am and drove myself over to our Event Control Centre. It was really cold out there in a drafty scout hut. Spent all morning acting as Volunteers and Logistics Coordinator as well as leading the build of Checkpoint 8.

Was saved big style by Bill who stepped in to replace one of my drop outs...Legend that man.

After lunch drove up the line visiting checkpoints and my corporate volunteering groups. I also fixed lots of logistical issues as they came up. From water issues to electric I was having much fun. Ended up at the finish at about 10.30 pm and then finally went home. Got to bed after midnight.

Day Four Hundred and Forty

Thursday

A weirdly quieter day in the office today, the Melbourne team and key people are all out building checkpoints. I would love to be out there today but alas I was held in office dealing with vollie issues. I also seemed to be the on call person for all the bits and pieces they had forgotten etc.

Left the office at about 8pm and headed over to Willoughby. Early start tomorrow!

Wednesday 25 August 2010

Day Four Hundred and Thirty Nine

A big day at work, last minute prep for event, all of Melbourne team joined us, office was very busy. Had a last major team briefing this evening and most people are now off on the trail to start the build tomorrow.

I spent much of day dealing with last minute cancellations, understandable but annoying when people don't bother to tell you until last minute.

Drove over to Willoughby to pick up Kate

Tomorrow is my last day in office pre event then it's all go from 4am Friday morning for me.

Tuesday 24 August 2010

Day Four Hundred and Thirty Eight

Tuesday

Hectic day at work after leaving to get there at 7.20, only to miss the train, apparently there is no 7.24 like there is 8.24 or 9.24...waited at St Peters for 20 minutes as a result.

An interesting item on the morning show today...

Came home after 7 and vegged out. Did some tidying up as we have a flat inspection tomorrow by the landlord.

Pack from UK also arrived which was warmly received.

Monday 23 August 2010

Day Four Hundred and Thirty Seven

Monday

A busy day at work. Event week begins! Came home at about 7.30 to a lovely spag bol cooked by Kate. We spent the evening stuffing name badges for the event, about 650 of them.

Day Four Hundred and Thirty Six

Sunday

A day spent mainly at home doing wedding planning and investigations. Had a good Skype call with folks in the evening. We also had dinner with Caroline in the Botany.

Day Four Hundred and Thirty Five

Saturday

We visited two florists today, we think we preferred the second one, we are just waiting on quotes now. Went into work for a few hours to get stuff done. Came home and then we went for a pre
game dinner at the Cleveland Hotel before going to the final home Swans game of the season. They had a good win. Had a few post match drinks at the Beresford too which was packed. Got home about 12.30am.

Friday 20 August 2010

Day Four Hundred and Thirty Four

Friiiiiiiiiiiiiiday

Into work as usual, doing final final allocations of volunteers. In the afternoon visited Deloitte and gave my 12th and final briefing. I wont miss them!

Back to office and we celebrated reaching 2 million dollars in fundraising with ice creams!

Left work at 7.30 and drove to Willoughby, we have appointments with florists at 8am and 9am tomorrow.

Tomorrow is general election here in Australia, no one seems to be able to call which way its going to go, lets see.

Thursday 19 August 2010

Day Four Hundred and Thirty Three

Into work early, was at desk by 8.10am.

Spent morning prepping for a meeting with Vodafone, and subsequently travelled to North Sydney to present to them. Their offices reminded me very much of Symbian a few years ago, all dot com with beanbags and pool tables dotted around the office.

Presented all the stuff and then came back to the office. Did some final allocations to fill last few spots in the afternoon and then home. We hit the Marrickville Metro - it's still horrid and then home for the evening.

Day Four Hundred and Thirty Two

A busy day at work prepping for the briefing night in the evening. Went to the venue in the afternoon and helped set up. We ran two sessions, the first one at 4.30, the second at 6.30. All went off OK and my colleagues did a good job. Must be hard presenting to 600 plus people.

Kate came and saw second session which was cool. Came home and chilled (as usual).

Tuesday 17 August 2010

Day Four Hundred and Thirty One

Tuesday

A slightly quieter day although had to spend my lunchtime doing yet another corporate briefing, still it was on the 26th floor of a building on Martin Place so had a good view and was only to 10 or so people so a bit nicer to do.

Finished up work just after 6 which was nice, met Kate at Central and we came home for dinner and chill out.

Tomorrow is our major briefing night to the walkers, thankfully I'm avoiding the potential of talking to up to 2000 people...

Day Four Hundred and Thirty

Monday

Another long day at work, had the final general briefing in the evening so got home at about 8pm. had dinner and crashed.

Sunday 15 August 2010

Day Four Hundred and Twenty Nine

Sunday

A day off! A relaxed morning doing wedding planning and then we grabbed a late lunch at the Botany. More wedding planning after lunch and then we drove over to Willoughby for dinner and to stay the night. Came here to give me a head start on the traffic in the morning as have to visit Macquarie University first thing to brief the Chiro students helping us at event.

Spoke to folks on Skype which was good.

Saturday 14 August 2010

Day Four Hundred and Twenty Eight

Up early, awake at 6.45. Went into work for 9.30 and at 1pm presented my last general volunteer session to about 50 people. Only 4 more of this presentations to go thankfully.

Came home about 4.30 and caught end of swans game on tele. Rest of day has been spent doing very little. Taking a day off tomorrow having worked 13 days in a row.

Friday 13 August 2010

Day Four Hundred and Twenty Seven

A long day at work, the time disappeared. Left there at 7ish and headed to Willoughby for dinner. Drove back to Newtown for sleep. Into work again tomorrow.

Thursday 12 August 2010

Day Four Hundred and Twenty Six

Took the dog for a walk around the block before work. Dropped Kate in St Leonards and then drove across the Bridge and over to Alexandria. Went to storage place, then cash and carry, back to storage place and finally into work.

Another day flew by and then presented again to lots of volunteers.

Drove back over to Willoughby and vegged out in front of TV with Kate.

Wednesday 11 August 2010

Day Four Hundred and Twenty Five

Up early as we had to move all of our event equipment from the office in Surry Hills to Alexandria. Firstly had to pick up people from the office, then we drove to the van hire place (ironically past our flat in Newtown again), back to Surry Hills.

Spent an hour shifting gear and loading the truck. Then we all went to Alexandria and unloaded. Had great help form my ex colleague form London Steve W and his wife Val.

Back to Surry Hills and then once everyone had been back to Alexandria again had to drive ot van hire place to bring people back again.

Found a brief moment to check some emails and before I knew it was 6pm again and I was presenting to 60 plus people.

Left office just before 7.45 and drove over to Willoughby as we are pet sitting.

Another early start tomorrow for trip to storage place and cash and carry.

Some pics of me doing my thing....

Tuesday 10 August 2010

Day Four Hundred and Twenty Four

Tuesday

The days blur into one at the moment. Spent much of day doing odd bits and pieces, then at 6pm had the first of my general volunteer briefings. All seemed to go OK and was reassuring to see people actually arrive. All this planning and communication already but it's nice to see human beings.

Was a bit off with lots of the staff standing at the back watching. That was the 6th time I have done the presentation and I have another 6 times to do it. I'll know it backwards by the end.

Came home and had some food. Sounds like Kate had a really good day wedding dress shopping today too.

Another early start in the morning, have to drive my boss to van hire place at 8.30 so we can unload our office to the storage place.

Monday 9 August 2010

Day Four Hundred and Twenty Three

Monday Monday

Happy Birthday Carol Colhoun and Graham Quincey (and Pat Quincey for Saturday)

Into work and spent most of day dealing with various volunteer issues and prepping for general volunteer briefings for the next three nights.

Came home and got to see my gorgeous Fiancee for the first time in 5 days. We then drove over to Australian Youth Hotel and met Bill and Carol for a birthday dinner.

Came back to Newtown and had a Skype call with Adelaide for present opening.

We are both knackered and off to bed.

Sunday 8 August 2010

Day Four Hundred and Twenty Two

Sunday

Woke up at 9am and took myself into work for 10am. Got most things up to date, had planned to leave at about 4pm but chipped in to help get some of the other stuff done. From a selfish perspective I need the space cleared to do a vollie briefing on Wednesday so the bump out needs to be ready to go. Left the office about 7pm.

Got the 7.05 train home which sailed through St peters station. Apparently the driver forgot to stop, I wonder if he/she disregards red lights as well!

After sitting at Sydneham for 20 mins got home. Skyped folks, cleaned the house and chilling out now.

Day Four Hundred and Twenty One

Saturday

Well.... spent most of the day at work, came home and crashed in front of TV. Spoke to Kate, she is working hard at the conference on the Gold Coast.

Friday 6 August 2010

Day Four Hundred and Twenty

A long day at work. Did yet another corporate presentation, this time to about 50 people without the aid of slides, alas they had no projector to show my pitch. It's funny I was totally unfazed by it all, think it comes form a good understanding of my subject matter. I used to hate presenting at Symbian/Nokia through a fear of having no idea how to answer the techie questions that may have come my way.

My choice to break into events has certainly been the right one.

Left the office at 7.30 and did not much at home beyond sending few emails. Had a quick call to Kate on Gold Coast, she sounds knackered after running around all day.

Back to work tomorrow & Sunday for that matter.

Thursday 5 August 2010

Day Four Hundred and Nineteen

Thursday

We were up early as Kate had a 9am flight to Gold Coast. Bill picked her up at 7.30 and before I knew she was gone and I'm left alone in Sydney for 4 days. It's usually me off and away on events so it's good she gets a turn.

She is at the annual Prostate Cancer Foundation Conference.

Took myself into work.

In the afternoon I trekked out to Concord West for another corporate briefing which went well.

Back to Sydney and worked until 7.30 before coming home and doing not much more than watch mindless telly.

Day Four Hundred and Eighteen

Wednesday

A good day at work, went into the city at lunchtime to present to one of my corporates, was nice being on the 22nd floor looking over Sydney. Back to office in the afternoon and ploughed on with things.

In the evening came home late and grabbed dinner with Kate in Botany.

Spent the late evening helping Kate pack for her trip to Gold Coast.

Tuesday 3 August 2010

Day Four Hundred and Seventeen

Tuesday

Another busy day at work, I cancelled one of my corporate briefings as they didn't get enough volunteers. Left work about 6.30.

Had dinner at home and had a Skype call with Chris and Hannah in Adelaide.

Seems it was pretty windy in Sydney last night

Seems City to Surf didn't put enough weight on their marquees...

Monday 2 August 2010

Day Four Hundred and Sixteen

A busy day at work, was up early and in the office by 7.55am. Not much else to report today, it's wet, windy and cold in Sydney...roll on spring.

Sunday 1 August 2010

Day Four Hundred and Fifteen

Sunday

Another lazy morning followed afternoon drinks at Maureens to meet her daughters boyfriend Peter from Vienna. We drove back to Willoughby and had a nice dinner there. Had a Skype call with Hazel and her new kitten Willow and then another Skype call with the folks.

Drove home to Newtown to start another crazy week of work.

ps Caro if you are reading, we did see your Skype message..will chat soon but great to hear it!

Day Four Hundred and Fourteen

Saturday

A relaxed morning and then we drove to Bondi Junction Westfield to do some shopping and spend a bit of money on ourselves. We've been saving lots for wedding and not bought ourselves much recently so went and did some clothes shopping.

After coming home we hit the train and travelled to ANZ stadium to watch the Swans get beaten by Geelong. Travelled back on the train and had transport nightmares at Central trying to get back to St Peters. Finally got to bed late.
