Day Six Hundred and Fifty Four

Monday

A busy day at work of meetings and lots of activity.

A quiet night in, did some packing for Melbourne and helped Kate with her CV

Short and sweet update today...

Sunday 27 March 2011

Day Six Hundred and Fifty Three

Sunday

A day spent at the shops spending some of the vouchers we were kindly given for our wedding.

The afternoon was spent watching the first Swans game of the season on the telly, well Kate watched it more than me and I did some work stuff at the same time.

An exciting trip to the supermarket this afternoon (not really) followed by Skype call to UK.

Quiet evening.

Day Six Hundred and Fifty Two

The weekend!

Kate and I went to the local farmers markets this morning, it's about a 10 minute walk down the road and happens every two weeks on a Saturday.

http://www.janpowersfarmersmarkets.com.au/markets.html

Was very nice to see such good produce direct from the farmers and was a lot cheaper than the supermarket. We invested in some organic steak and lots of veggies.

We came home and then went back out for a cheap lunch at Liquid.

An afternoon at home and then a decent dinner cooking our produce from this morning.

We observed our own earth hour this evening while eating dinner.

Day Six Hundred and Fifty One

Friday

A busy day at work, including a meeting out at the Gabba to meet a potential supplier. Was very hot in Brisbane. Apparently Michael Voss the Brisbane Lions coach walked past Brett and I during the meeting, afraid I didn't recognise him.

Kate picked me up from work and we had a quiet night at home eating Mexican food.

Day Six Hundred and Fifty

Thursday

A busy day at work, in the morning we ended up outside as part of the Close the Gap events, having our pictures taken with a CTG banner. At 11am it was out on the road, the entire team headed out to the trail and our Checkpoints 3, 5 and 6. The team then walked whilst I did additional site visits and met them along the way.

Did get home at 5.30 which was nice, had calls with Adelaide and Sydney this evening.

Wednesday 23 March 2011

Day Six Hundred and Forty Nine

Wednesday

Another busy day at work, followed by trip to supermarket and then call with folks once we got home. Nothing big to report today so only a short blog post!

Out on site/trail visits tomorrow....

Tuesday 22 March 2011

Day Six Hundred and Forty Eight

Tuesday

Wow it was super hot in Brisbane today, walked into work which was an effort.

Had a meeting out at the Centro shopping centre of all places meeting one of our event contractors which went well.

Spent rest of afternoon getting on with lots of things.

Not much to report from home this evening.

Monday 21 March 2011

Day Six Hundred and Forty Seven

Back to work.

A very productive day, I got lots done and my new logistics assistant also started today which will help me no end.

Kate picked me up from work, not much else to report for today.

Some album recommendations for anyone reading, the new Adele album is superb and I keep coming back to the Angus and Julia Stone album, just sublime.

Day Six Hundred and Forty Six

Sunday

A nice day, we got up and met Jacqui, Kate's school friend who was up from Sydney and had brunch at the The London Club around the corner. Although the food was good, the service was crap and we finally got our food one hour and twenty minutes after arriving.

We parted company with her and came home. We did a bit of shopping and had a quiet afternoon at home.

Back to work tomorrow.

Saturday 19 March 2011

Day Six Hundred and Forty Five

Saturday

A very quiet day, we only went out to the supermarket in the afternoon. We had a Skype call with the folks which was good.

All in all nice to have a quiet weekend without printing wedding stationary or thinking about what we have to do next.

We watched the movie 'The Reef', my verdict about 6.5/10.

Day Six Hundred and Forty Four

Friday

A good day at work, although we both struggled to sleep through the night with the sore throat and coughs. Dragged myself in and got lots done.

A relaxed evening at home with takeaway fish and chips.

Thursday 17 March 2011

Day Six Hundred and Forty Three

Thursday

Kate and I awoke at 3am both with really sore throats, we must have picked up a bug on the flight. Fell back to sleep and found it very hard to get up, kept re-setting the alarm and finally dragged myself out of bed at 8am.

A busy day at work of meetings and scheduling etc.

Kate picked me up and we've had a quiet night at home. Heard from Bill and Carol who have landed after their long haul home.

Day Six Hundred and Forty Two

Updated 16/3

Wednesday 16th March

Back to reality, woke up at 6.30ish, had a fairly good nights sleep which will help with jet lag.

Into work by 8.30am and back to reality. Spent day trying to catch up, put together all the new racking for our store room. Kate picked me up at 5.15 and came home.

A lazy evening tonight, started paperwork for second stage of visa application.

Day Six Hundred and Forty One

Updated 15/3

Relates to Tuesday 15th March

We finally landed at about 7am after 14 hours on the Dubai - Brisbane leg. It wasn't too bad as plane was only a third full and Kate and I had the middle 4 seats of the 777 to crash out in, we took it in turns to lay out across the unused 3 seats.

Took a taxi ride home with a very chatty cabbie, was hard to show interest as we were knackered.

Despite plans to stay awake we decided to sleep form 10am to 12pm which turned into getting up at 1.30 pm, still we both needed it.

We went out for lunch and did some food shopping and have spent the rest of the afternoon in front of TV, catching up on some paperwork and just trying to stay awake.

I'm also taking on the task of getting this blog up to date. I'll put date stamps on each post as I update them.

Day Six Hundred and Forty

Updated 15/3

Relates to Monday 14th March

A day lost to travel so very little to report, we were on the Emirates flights EK 006 and EK 434. Smooth flights with lots of sleep.

Day Six Hundred and Thirty Nine

Updated 15/3

Relates to Sunday 13th March

We woke up late after a late night yesterday. We didn't drag ourselves out of bed until 10am. Spent the morning in Old Basing eating good Sunday morning English breakfast.

We then set about packing up all our belongings. We brought far too much stuff over with us from the UK, and with all the superb gifts etc we have received in England we are squeezing everything into the cases.

Soon enough it was time to leave Old Basing, say good bye to Hazel and Peter once again and head back to Yateley to finish off the packing.

More packing and a quick trip to the shops and it was off to the airport again. The airport goodbyes with the folks are never easy and this one was no exception. It's made a little easier knowing we'll be back this year for Christmas but still a good 8 months til we see them again.

We went through to Departures, had dinner in the pub at T3.

Had a bloody nightmare trying to board, Heathrow really is a s*ithole, the gate was too small to accommodate the contents of a 777, the PA system didn't work which resulted in uninterested ground staff trying ot shout to 300 people and get them to board in order....crap crap crap.

Finally got away (took off late as usual) and started the first of 2 legs back to Oz. Slept most of the way to Dubai.

Day Six Hundred and Thirty Eight

Saturday 12th March

The day of our UK celebration, it was lovely to see so many family and friends at Peppones. I'll add some more photos of people here when I have them from people, anyone reading feel free to email me some pics as I didn't take any!

The day was made especially special by the wonderful flowers made by my sister, and the cake made by my Aunty Linda.

Was a great way to finish off 3 weeks of wedding activities. We finally got away at 1am and home to Old Basing for a good sleep!

Day Six Hundred and Thirty Seven

Friday A day at the seaside, Kate and I met all the folks in Farnham so Bill & Carol could see Hazel's shop in Farnham. We all then drove down in the cars to Southsea & Portsmouth. As Bill had made reference to Portsmouth in his speech at the wedding it was a nice opportunity to show him the place itself. It was pretty cold, although the one pound ninety nine woolly hat from the BP garage made life easier. We arrived and spent time in the historic naval dockyard, looking at ships like Victory.

http://www.historicdockyard.co.uk/

After that and lunch we all went to Southsea to see the beautiful delights of Clarence Pier, how tacky and unloved it still remains.

http://www.clarencepier.co.uk/index.html

We froze Carol half to death on the beach awaiting the excitement of the hovercraft arrival.

We all headed home and had takeaway in Old Basing.

Sunday 6 March 2011

Day Six Hundred and Thirty Two

Sunday

We awoke at 5.30am, pesky jet lag.

The folks left to go and pick up Hazel and Peter at 6.30am, so Kate and I got up about 7ish and were dressed etc well before 9am.

Drove to M&S to do some shopping.

Had a great roast beef Dinner, went for walk around the village in the afternoon and a quiet evening.

Day Six Hundred and Thirty One

Saturday

Up early and taxi to airport. fairly smooth flight back to LHR, then had to contend with the crapness of Heathrow T3, what a s##thole.

Met folks and they drove us home, an easy afternoon in front of UK telly and crashed at about 9.30pm.

Day Six Hundred and Thirty

Friday

A very relaxed day around the pool followed by walk along the beach.

We watched a British wedding on the beach in Dubai, poor sods had to deal with 40mph winds, no fun!

In the evening had a Thai meal at the Pai Thai restaurant but it was quite chilly in the wind. Back to room to finish packing before early flight home to UK in the morning.

Day Six Hundred and Twenty Nine

Thursday

A day spent firstly at the Dubai Mall, after a slight detour to the Mall of the Emirates. We visited the aquarium there and took a glass bottom boat ride across the top of the tank which was cool.

The afternoon was spent around the pool relaxing.

We went back to room and vowed not to sleep, then decided a quick hour wouldn't hurt, anyway after somehow switching of the phone alarm a second time I awoke at 9.17pm after 3 hours sleep to remember we had a booking at the Pier Chic restaurant at 9.30pm

We rushed down there and had a meal in a bit of a daze.

back to room and crashed.

Wednesday 2 March 2011

Day Six Hundred and Twenty Eight

Wednesday

Still trying to shake the jet lag, I awoke at 2.30am, 4.30am and was properly awake by 5.30amwaiting for the sun to come up. We took ourselves down to an overblown breakfast, hey why notspoil yourself on honeymoon!

We came back and changed and saw the concierge to book in the restaurants for dinner Thursand Friday nights.

We then went to Wild Wadi for the best part of the day, thankfully it was not too busy and wasalso sunny meaning it wasnt cold getting in and out of the water. I even braved the following ride...

http://www.jumeirah.com/en/Hotels-and-Resorts/Wild-Wadi/Rides/Daring-Fun/Jumeirah-Sceirah/

We walked back and spent a few hours poolside reading and then back to the room.

We had a superb Chinese meal and are now full to bursting. Spoke to folks (all of them at once as they all arrived otgether in UK) and now off to bed.

Day Six Hundred and Twenty Seven

We landed just after 5am in Dubai after a long but not too bad flight.

We got ourselves a 'Ladies Taxi' complete with pink gloved lady driver to the resort. We checked in and I played up the honeymoon aspect of our visit. The room wasnt ready yet so we had a complimentary brekkie and finally got to our room at around 9am.

We spent the day by the pool which was very relaxing but came back tothe room at about 2pm and crashed for 4 hours, that wasnt the plan but laying on the bed was a bad idea and we both fell asleep.

We were awoken by a nice man bringing us a complimentary bottle of champagne (the cheapest they do at 600 dirams or 200 hundred aussie dollars to you or me) which was nice of hotel.

We had dinner at the beach restaurant after the usual, have you got a book, no, i'll fit you in just this once conversation that goes on here.

Came back to room and crashed.

Day Six Hundred and Twenty Six

Monday 28th Feb

A frantic day running around post wedding, we did lots of car sharing as we only had the Honda at Willoughby.

Bill took Chris back to car hire place and brought him home.

Kate and I then took Honda to drop off the suits and visit the Sergeants mess to pick up the remainder of our items.

Bill drove Chris and Hannah to the airport.

Kate I went and picked up my folks and drove them to the airport, we then dropped into the Sydney office to return the mic stand we borrowed.

We drove back toWilloughby.

Bill and Carol drove us to the airport.

We finally got the 21.45 flight to Dubai. a 14 hour flight from Sydney to Dubai.

Im still amazed at the grace of the A380 and how it gently takes off.
