A very wet day in Sydney today but not as bad as they have had it up in Queensland again.

Kate and I drove out to Manly today to get out of the house. We parked up and watched the ocean before walking tot he chippie to get a meal to share. We got back to the car absolutely soaked.

A nice relaxing day at home today, just catching up on some relaxation after a busy week and hectic day yesterday. We did a brief bit of shopping during the day and then had lovely roast lamb dinner this evening followed by Apple pie and Custard (well Ice Cream for everyone else as they could not be tempted by custard).

Day One Thousand Three Hundred and Twenty Three

Friday 25th January

Walked 11km through the Australian bush today. Not for the fun of it but for work, to measure parts of the trail where data is a bit sketchy.

Started at 8am and walked 1.6km of Section 8, then 1.7km of section 7. the did a few bits of measuring around Checkpoint 5 in Davidson. Then went all the way up to Section 2 of trail and decided not to try and walk another 8km in under 2 hours as we had a schedule to meet other people and we would have been under pressure to finish on time.

Drove to new Checkpoint 2 site, tested data signal and then met representative from parks and a key volunteer and we walked 1.7km into bush to one of our remote junctions on the trail to discuss that. We then walked the 1.7km back out of the bush.

A very hot day to be walking but kept drinking all day.

Got home about 6.30 with the start of one or two blisters.

Had some food and headed to bed at about 9.30pm whilst others watched Andy Murray in semi final beat Federer.

Day One Thousand Three Hundred and Twenty Two

Thursday 24th January

Not much to report today, spent all day at work working on map book art work as we have a deadline of Friday 1st Feb to get it all to graphics design dept at work before it goes off to print.

Came home, had dinner and off to bed, early start tomorrow as I'm out walking the trail.

Day One Thousand Three Hundred and Twenty One

Wednesday 23rd January

Came home, had some dinner and then Skyped UK.

Tuesday 22 January 2013

Day One Thousand Three Hundred and Twenty

Tuesday 22nd January

Moved desks today at work, we have had a bit of a shuffle around, I'm now back in the desk I occupied back in 2010 when I first started in the Sydney office. It's a much better desk than the one I was in, less exposed and I have some wall space where I can put maps etc up.

Headed home for dinner at about 6.30.

Day One Thousand Three Hundred and Nineteen

Monday 21st January

Back to work, spent a lot of time on map work and finalising trail for 2013. Spent some time on phone to counterparts in Brisbane helping them with knowledge from previous 2 events.

Day One Thousand Three Hundred and Sixteen

Friday 18th January

Sydney reached 45.8 degrees today, a record temperature in the city. It certainly felt hot, especially at lunchtime where sat outside for a Mexican lunch.

At least the air con in our office works well.

Caught a train home just before 5pm, missing all the problems with train breakdowns etc which seemed to start occurring later on.

Had a quiet night at home locked up in the air conditioning.

Day One Thousand Three Hundred and Fourteen

Wednesday 16th January

A normal day at work. In the evening Kate and I met Caroline down at the harbour to go to the Open Air Cinema at Farm Cove overlooking the city and Botanic Gardens. Was very good fun, we got in and reserved our seats and then found a table in the restaurant area.

We then went to watch the movie and the screen elevated from horizontal to vertical just before the movie started.

We saw 'The Impossible' about the 2004 tsunami. A very good movie but very graphic in places, to extent people were leaving and someone fainted in the aisle at one point.

Once it was over we walked up and met Bill who picked us up.

Day One Thousand Three Hundred and Twelve

Someone knocked the casing off the wing mirror on the car overnight, must have driven bloody close to the car. Thankfully no broken bits so its partially back on until I can borrow some star headed screwdrivers to tighten it all up.

Walked to work, it was quite windy and a bit chilly on the walk. Normal Monday work activities today and then Kate picked me up from station, before we headed home via petrol station.

Day One Thousand Two Hundred and Ninety Nine

Tuesday 1st January 2013

Happy New Year people!

We struggled to get out of bed and once we finally did we headed down to breakfast in the hotel restaurant. It was pretty busy in there so we ended up on an outside table near the pool. Half way through brekkie we ended up inside as there was a swarm of flying insects getting everywhere...grim...

After brekkie we packed up and checked out. We drove the 2 hours home and thankfully there was no problem with the holiday traffic.

We got home in time for lunch and then had a relaxing afternoon and evening at home. wrapped up the day not too late as Kate is back to work tomorrow.

Day One Thousand Two Hundred and Ninety Eight

Monday December 31st

Goodbye 2012....

We had a very lazy day today, after brekkie we headed down to the pool, we went to the lagoon pool first but it was pretty soulless so we went to the main one with more people around. Unfortunately the hotel lacks any significant number of loungers around the pool or shade. We found a normal table and waited and then pounced on two sun loungers when an Irish family left. We dug in then for about 4 hours relaxing by the pool reading and listening to music. We had lunch and cocktails too.

At about 5 we headed back to the room to get ready for dinner tonight. A 6 course Degustation menu in the event room above the restaurant. Below is menu and picture of view we had from table.

The New Years Eve gathering was nice, a quiet affair with only 29 people eating dinner.

At midnight we saw in the new year.
