Day Five Hundred and Six

Sunday

We spent all day packing. Almost everything is now in a box, or destined to go to Willoughby. Still a few things to do but we are in good shape for when the removal people come on Friday to collect it all. Can't believe we have so much stuff!

I fly to Brisbane at 9am tomorrow and back Wednesday night.

Day Five Hundred and FIve

Saturday

house Got up and drove Kate to Royal North Shore Hospital for the second session of her course. Drove back to Willoughby and loaded up the car with all our stuff. The followed Bill over to Barbara'sin the Rocks to help her sort out her Internet problems on her new laptop. Around lunchtime drove back to Newtown, traffic was a nightmare across the city at weekend with roadworks everywhere.

In the afternoon started packing up for our move to Brisbane. Bill & Carol picked up Kate and drove her over back to Newtown. We spent a good few hours packing boxes altogether.

In the evening we carried on and made a good start on our packing.

Day Five Hundred and Four

Friday

Drove into work from Willoughby and spent day working on preparation for next weeks visit to Brisbane. Drove back to Willoughby in the evening, relaxed in front of TV with a Thai takeaway.

Thursday 28 October 2010

Day Five Hundred and Three

Thursday

Took the train to work, spent most of the day working on map book plans for Brisbane event. Also booked all my flights to Brisbane and back during the day, now have three more trips back and forth in next three weeks.

Also booked our Dubai accommodation for our trip/honeymoon when we fly back to UK after our wedding. Staying at same place as last time, cant wait!

Drove to Willoughby for dinner and staying here tonight.

Funnily noticed last night they have started putting the framework back up on the harbour bridge for the New Years Eve display that hangs on the side. We must be nearing Christmas!

Day Five Hundred and Two

Wednesday

Usual day at work in the Sydney office and then drove over to Willloughby to see Kate. Had a nice dinner and then I drove back to Newtown and stayed there to prep for viewings on Saturday.

Tuesday 26 October 2010

Day Five Hundred and One

Tuesday

Today felt like Wednesday, don't know why but there you go. Was in work by 8.40 and spent most of the day profiling the topography of the trail. It's a hard course, when the material is more public I will post it here.

Took the train back to Newtown, collected some overnight kit and drove to Willoughby. Kate is recovering slowly, still got a bit of swelling which does not seem to be going down but she is being well looked after here.

Dinner and bed.

Day Five Hundred

500 days....

Well 500 days in Australia, I'm not sure I have any deep and meaningful words to share though! Does feel like we are progressing well with settling down, I'm into a job in events I'm really enjoying and we have a fresh start in Brisbane just around the corner. It gives Kate an opportunity to do something she wants to do too.

Back to the realities of Monday though...Kate was up at 6am and was driven to the hospital by her folks for her wisdom teeth extraction. I headed over there at 9.30ish to be there when she wok up from the op. All seemed to go very well and we had her on the way home by 12.15.

It's always scary when loved ones go under anesthetic but thankfully she came out OK.

In the afternoon I left Kate in the very capable hands of her folks and went back to work.

Drove back to Willoughby in the evening and as I write this about to have dinner and then I'll head back to Newtown tonight.

Day Four Hundred and Ninety Nine

A relaxed day in Newtown, it rained constantly all day. We just took a bit of a break form everything to relax, there's lots of busy weeks ahead so we took a chance to throttle back. I loaded the plant pots in the car for taking to Willoughby later in the evening.

We packed a few things for Kate to stay at her folks for most of the week, she has her upper wisdom teeth out in the morning.

We drove to Willoughy early evening and had a charcoal charlies chicken for dinner. Went to bed at 11ish, Kate scared the hell out me by almost screaming when I slid the bedroom door shut as there was a monster Huntsmen spider lurking behind the door. Thankfully harmless but about 8cm in size it was a bit of a mission to chuck it outside.

Day Four Hundred and Ninety Eight

Saturday

Up early for a Saturday in Willoughby and I drove Kate over to the Royal North Shore hospital so she could start her education course. Came back to Willoughby and then hit Bunnings (UK equivalent is B&Q) with Bill and Carol for some stuff for thier garden.

Came back and installed some Trellis on the fence and helped them trim back the shrubs/bushes in the garden. It was super warm and sunny, I reckon about 27 degrees.

Had a nice lunch and soon enough I picked up Kate at 3.30. There was a massive storm in the afternoon and it properly rained.

We stayed for dinner which was a lovely spag bol.

Drove home in the evening after watching the movie 'The Other Man' I don't recommend it, it's pants.

Seems our open house inspection happened as there was evidence such as wardrobe doors being slightly open. Hopefully someone will want to rent it.

Friday 22 October 2010

Day Four Hundred and Ninety Seven

Friday

A good productive day at work profiling the Brisbane trail. Lots of numbers, i.e. 4000 GPS data points along the trial but gives a good profile and data for our materials.

Drove to St Leonards and picked up Kate from work and we then came to Willoughby to stay. Kate starts a 5 week course at North Shore Hospital tomorrow so easier to get to from here.

Interesting news from UK, seems like the Symbian thing really is sinking now fast. Many of my ex colleagues at Nokia Cambridge where I once worked were served notices yesterday on the doorstep, doesn't look like the Cambridge office will survive.

The head of the Symbian Foundation has left.

Nokia is focusing on other ways of development.

Lots of interesting stories here

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/10/19/symbian_chief_steps_down/

Its a real shame, so many people put lots of years of effort into building Symbian and we really were the market leaders for a long time, now alas it looks like all that work is wasted and good people will be out on the street. From a selfish point of view I'm so glad Kate and I jumped ship when we did with the package we got, I think we got the best deal redundancy wise, no one else will get what we got offered.

Now let me go and buy an Iphone...

Thursday 21 October 2010

Day Four Hundred and Ninety Six

Thursday

Stayed home early to let the removal man come in and quote for moving our stuff up to Brisbane. All went well.

Went into work and ploughed on with map books etc for Brisbane event. Not got long left in the Sydney office now.

Came home and we had dinner at the Botony as we both couldn't be bothered to cook.

Day Four Hundred and Ninety Five

Wednesday

Another busy day at work. Came home and we had a quiet night in front of TV and a Skype call with folks.

There was a great pic on front of Australian Paper yesterday,I've added link below showing water running down Uluru

Tuesday 19 October 2010

Day Four Hundred and Ninety Four

A manic day at work, sorting out flat rental, removalists, learning new programs on PC, organising meetings with QPWS and Brisbane City Council for my next trip to Brissie week after next. The week after that I should be up there proper as Kate finishes her last week at work.

We got approval to rent the flat we saw on Saturday, we've paid our deposit. Teneriffe here we come.

This evening we tried to list everything we have to do in next few weeks, it's good to have it on a list.

Monday 18 October 2010

Day Four Hundred and Ninety Three

Monday

A tough start to the morning, we both find it hard to wake up on a Monday!

A general day in the office doing lots of permit work for Brisbane. Also looking at removalists, chasing our application for flat in Brisbane, doing some wedding investigations into transport options.

Came home and did very little.

Day Four Hundred and Ninety Two

Sunday

Spent a leisurely morning in Willoughby before heading home to Newtown. We grabbed some shopping on the way. The car was already loaded up with our moving boxes from Willoughby.

Spent the afternoon sorting stuff out, throwing things away and getting flat ready for inspections.

Had a good Skype call with folks in the evening.

Day Four Hundred and Ninety One

Saturday Up early to go and pick up the hire car from the city.

Came back and collected Kate. We debated if we had time to get to the first flat viewing but went for it. Spent the morning viewing 5 places, most of which were not suitable.
We thought about it and decided on the one we had seen first - the one we almost skipped. We filled in the forms and dropped them into the real estate agents.

We grabbed some lunch here http://www.jamesstreetbistro.com.au/

After lunch we took a drive up to Mt Coot-tha lookout to view Brisbane.
We then headed back to the airport. Alas we then faced almost 2 hours of delays and almost got stuck in Brisbane as we were going to miss the Sydney curfew.

I got bumped into an exit seat and managed to get Kate with me on the plane too so result with extra leg room.
Bill and Carol picked us up and we headed home to Willoughby.

Day Four Hundred and Ninety

Friday

Yet another early start, drove out to The Gap and the HQ of Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service for meetings with them. All went very well. Brett and I visited a couple of event sites too.

Back to the office early afternoon and did a few more bits and pieces. Knocked off at about 6 and went back to apartment.

In the evening awaited Kate's arrival and she was held up by the strong winds out of Sydney.

Once she was there we grabbed some food at Gerties and then crashed.

Thursday 14 October 2010

Day Four Hundred and Eighty Nine

Thursday

Was in the office at 7.45 to do three more second interviews for the marketing coordinator position. We wrapped them up just before 11. We made a decision we are all happy with and let the candidate know at lunchtime. The core team of two now became the complete set of three.
In the afternoon we had a meeting with the local council on the 14th floor of their particularly large offices on George St. All went well and lots of contacts made. Back to the office and a bit more work. Knocked off about 5.30 for a quiet night back at hotel in front of TV again.

Kate arrives here tomorrow thankfully.

Tomorrow I also have to be back over at the Gap to measure this dam. Certainly a different job to Symbian/Nokia but wouldn't go back for a minute. Give me a dam in Queensland over a crap meeting in Southwark.

Day Four Hundred and Eighty Eight

Wednesday

Up early and drove over to pick up Brett, then dropped him and Andy and Yolanda over to Checkpoint 3, Lake Manchester for them to walk 26km up to Scrub Road. As you can see form below it was a good job they were not waling in opposite direction as trail was blocked by Lake Manchester Spillway being released.

Having left them to it I walked the checkpoint site making plans and then visited a few others. Had to a three km round trip walk alone into one of our bush checkpoints, again vid below to show you all where we going to be operating.

Made a few more site visits and then picked up the team near Mt Glorious.

Drove home, had some Himalyan food with Andy and then crashed out.

Tuesday 12 October 2010

Day Four Hundred and Eighty Seven

Tuesday

Took the 11am flight to Brisbane. Was a bit bumpy but added a few more Virgin Blue miles to the tally. We grabbed the hire car, picked up Brett and headed out to do more trail work. I dropped the others off after we had driven through some dodgy flooded creek crossings. For history sake Queensland is having it's wettest spring in many years. All the dams are full after years of drought to the extent they are doing controlled releases. (This meant I could not meet one of the Water company rangers today).

More walking in the afternoon and visiting potential checkpoints

In the evening grabbed some dinner at Gerties.

Monday 11 October 2010

Day Four Hundred and Eighty Six

Monday

Not much to report, busy day at work, came home, made a few more decisions around things for wedding and crashed out.

I fly to Brissie tomorrow morning until Saturday.

Day Four Hundred and Eighty Five

Sunday

We went over to Willoughby in the morning, avoiding the Harbour Bridge which was hosting breakfast on the bridge. We were going over ot help Bill celebrate his Birthday. We drove over to Ripples at Chowder Bay and had a lovely lunch. It is very near the Sergeants Mess where we are getting married so had a look round there too.

Back to Willoughby and cake and presents time. Late afternoon we drove home and then went for a walk around Sydney Park as I need to test out Sat Nav devices we use for work. I'm off to Brisbane Tuesday scouting out trail routes so need to know how they work.

Came home and Skyped Hazel and Peter which was nice.

Crashed and went to bed!

The Birthday Boy/Car Wash extrodinaire...

Where we are getting married in Feb

Saturday 9 October 2010

Day Day Four Hundred and Eighty Four

Saturday

A time to catch up on some Zzzzzz's. Got up and we did some wedding stuff including sorting out more save the dates. We then went into town, looked at some wedding cake suppliers, ring suppliers etc. Kate got herself a new mobile on contract, no more pay as you go.

We came home and did some more wedding things, cooked a stir fry for dinner and in the evening did a few more things planning our move to Brissie and prioritising what we need to do next for the wedding.

Day Day Four Hundred and Eighty Three

Friday

Manic day at work, setting up meetings for next weeks visit to Brisbane. Meeting people from Forests and Water companies on sites we plan to use. Didn't get away form work until after 7.

Came home and had a healthy dinner, Skyped folks and hit the sack.

Thursday 7 October 2010

Day Four Hundred and Eighty Two

Thursday

Not much to report work wise today, was doing more interviewing for Brisbane team.

Came home and then we spent the night at Rose Pub for Trivia. We came third after messing up the final bonus question. Apparently the biggest joint in the human body is the knee which we were going to say ironically due to Kate's knee probs, but we went for Hip instead...doh.

Day Four Hundred and Eighty One

Weds

A good day at work getting lots of Brisbane planning done. I'll be up in Queensland again from Tuesday to Saturday next week.

A quiet night at home.

Still no news from the builder about replacing our ceiling which is great for our get out of flat.

Tuesday 5 October 2010

Day Four Hundred and Eighty

Tuesday

Happy Anniversary to my folks.

Spent all day at work doing planning for Brisbane event. My to do list is over 200 items.

In the evening we did more wedding stuff.

Day Four Hundred and Seventy Nine

Monday

We got up and checked out of apartment. We then went and viewed another property in Newstead area of Brisbane, it wasn't what we were looking for, very sterile and new.

Called into the office briefly and then soon enough we were at Brissie airport and on the plane home. its a very quick flight, one hour and seven minutes.

Carol collected us and we got home and wasted rest of evening in front of TV.

Sunday 3 October 2010

Day Four Hundred and Seventy Eight

Sunday

A day spent checking out Brisbane, we drove around a few areas and then hit the city. We parked up and grabbed some lunch in the Queen St Mall area. We took a walk across the river to the Southbank and checked out some Thai themed festival.

Spent the evening back in New Farm with a curry.

tried to check in for tomorrows flight but have been beaten by Virgin Blues check in screw up it seems, will head to airport a bit earlier as a result.

Saturday 2 October 2010

Day Four Hundred and Seventy Seven

Saturday

Got up and met Brett and drove with him to airport, he has kindly lent us his car for the weekend which will help us get around the city to get a feel for the place. I drove back from there and met Kate. We then went and viewed 4 different apartments, 3 of the 4 were not suitable, one is a possibility in the Teneriffe area of the city, it has no air con though which is concerning.

We re-checked into our apartment in the afternoon as we had two separate bookings. In the evening we went to the following place in New farm which had fantastic food

www.gerties.com.au/menu.pdf

Food was amazing and the cocktails ain't half bad either.

We wondered home and crashed out in front of TV.

Day Four Hundred and Seventy Six

Friday

Another day spent in the Brisbane Office interviewing people for our marketing coordinator role. The day soon disappeared and I was on my way back to the apartment and waiting for Kate to arrive. At 9.30ish she arrived and we didn't do much before crashing out.
