Day Nine Hundred and Sixty Three

More interviews at work today, so again day disappeared. Took delivery of pack from UK today which is good, more UK telly on DVDs!

Was a viewing on flat this morning but no report from agent.

Day Nine Hundred and Sixty Two

Monday

Back to work and 2 interviews for our Volunteers Coordinator. That took up much of the day. Picked up Kate and quiet night at home. The delightful 'My Kitchen Rules' is back on the tele, I'm trying to avoid watching it but Kate is already hooked in!

Sunday 29 January 2012

Day Nine Hundred and Sixty One

Sunday

Still raining in Brisbane! A day around the house sorting chores out, 6 loads of washing, some ironing etc. I spent a good three hours in the afternoon sorting out photos on the computer. Deleted lots of duplicates and sorted stuff into folders.

Need to sort out photos on laptop and copy them across too.

Saturday 28 January 2012

Day Nine Hundred and Sixty

Saturday

A quiet day, Kate got up late after a sleep in and we headed down to New Farm to get some groceries and lunch.

A quiet afternoon in doing chores and dinner at home. Still raining here in QLD.

Day Nine Hundred and Fifty Nine

A very quiet day at work, I was the only member of staff in the office. I did a trip to Kennards in the morning to drop some stuff off and clear out all the clothes form last years event. I filled the charity bin at the Asthma place opposite.

Picked up Kate at 4.30 and we headed home. Spoke to Carol in the evening.

Thought about Bill who was in his last shift at work after 50 years. Maybe I'll give him access to this blog so he can pick up my typos and keep his hand in!

Thursday 26 January 2012

Day Nine Hundred and Fifty Eight

Thursday

Australia Day 2012.

A relaxed day off for Australia Day, in the morning we hung out at home and in the afternoon we went to the Cinema on James St to see J Edgar, the movie with Leonardo Di Caprio in about J Edgar Hoover. It was OK, nothing special and didn't really hold my interest that much.

We grabbed some Tapas at a bar next to the Cinema afterwards which was also not much. The Aussies have this weird thing where they slap an extra percentage on restaurant meals on public holidays to cover increased staff costs.

In other news Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott had an interesting day out

Day Nine Hundred and Fifty Seven

Wednesday

More and more rain, had to do some alerts to our walkers today as event sites effected by rain, nothing major just creeks flooding which is understandable.

Ended up in the office on my own in the afternoon as everyone was off or finished up early.

Day Nine Hundred and Fifty Six

Tuesday

Another rainy day in Queensland, a normal day at work so not much to report. Was my colleague Erins birthday so ended up eating cake, not much good for the health kick but oh well.

Some localised flooding around Brisbane today.

Monday 23 January 2012

Day Nine Hundred and Fifty Five

Monday

Not much to report today, had a Skype call with the UK in the evening. It's very wet here. Spoke to Estate agent today who was asking questions about the flat, we suspect there was a second viewing yesterday, hence the questions.

Day Nine Hundred and Fifty Four

Sunday

We awoke about 9 and got ourselves ready and checked out before heading over to the post wedding brunch which was held at Lochanside Estate

http://www.lochansideaccommodationbowralberrima.com/

Soon enough it was time to say goodbye to the happy couple and drive north back to Sydney. the traffic was not too bad as we were concerned with the bridge closure it would be bad but it was all good.

We had a brief siesta at Bill and Carols before they drove us back to the airport and we got the 7pm flight back to Brisbane.

Day Nine Hundred and Fifty Three

Saturday 21st January 2012

Today we celebrated the wedding of the wonderful Pru and Paul, the new Mr & Mrs Seddon.

We spent the late morning and lunchtime in Bowral before heading back to the hotel to get ready for the big day.

At just after 3 I drove myself, Kate, Adam and John over to the wedding venue.

http://www.montroseberryfarm.com.au/

At 3.30 while we were in the car it absolutely poured with rain, not ideal for a wedding starting at 4pm. On arrival the rain cleared and the wedding ceremony went off without a hitch or drop of rain either.

The reception was lovely with Pimms on tap and wonderful canapes. The dinner and speeches were superb as was the dancing and merriment that followed.

We headed back to where the Engels were staying for a bit of an after party before heading home and bed at 2am. Some highlight pics below.

Day Nine Hundred and Fifty Two

Friday

A lazy morning before we drove over to Circular Quay to pick up Pru and Pauls Wedding cake for them. Once we had that and a trip back to Willoughby we hit the road south to the Southern Highlands.

Took us best part of 3 hours due to traffic and upon arrival we delivered the cake (in one piece I may add) to Pru at Kirkham Manor.

We drove to the hotel to check in which was very nice.

We then drove to Briars (where we stayed when Chris and Hannah got married) and had a decent pub dinner surrounded by the wedding guests for tomorrow.

http://www.briars.com.au/

Headed back to hotel to crash at about 10pm.

Day Nine Hundred and Fifty One

Thursday

A usual day at work, after which I picked up Kate form work, we headed back to Teneriffe briefly before driving out to airport. We flew to Sydney on the 8pm and were met by Carol. Headed back to Willoughby and had cups of tea and chat with Bill and Carol as Bill arrived home from work at same time as us.

Wednesday 18 January 2012

Day Nine Hundred and Fifty

Wednesday

Another usual day at work, hit the supermarket afterwards and had a Skype call to UK. Last day at work tomorrow before a day off on Friday.

Tuesday 17 January 2012

Day Nine Hundred and Forty Nine

Not much to report today really, a busy day in the office doing volunteer stuff. Home for dinner and a night in front of the television.

Monday 16 January 2012

Day Nine Hundred and Forty Eight

Monday

Lots of rain over night but a fairly dry day here in Brisbane. During the morning drove out to Newmarket to meet with SES (State Emergency Service) to discuss their support to the event this year.

Back to work at lunchtime and a couple more meetings. Picked up Kate and we cooked a light pasta dish for dinner.

Raining heavily again this evening as I write this.

Sunday 15 January 2012

Day Nine Hundred and Forty Seven

Sunday

A trip to the good old Chermside Westfield late this morning. Kate found a fantastic dress which she bought. I bought a new tie wear to the impending wedding in Southern Highlands next weekend.

We cooked some Asian food this evening, kind of went OK.

Back to work tomorrow.

Day Nine Hundred and Forty Six

Saturday

We hit the supermarket in the morning, came back for some lunch and then went out to the shops again on James St. In the evening we cooked fish from the market and had a Skype call to the UK.

In the afternoon we also took a walk along the river and looked at New Teneriffe Ferry Terminal that starts to operate City Cat Services on 23rd. The Bulimba ferry is now running from new jetty rather than old one pictured last.

Friday 13 January 2012

Day Nine Hundred and Forty Five

Back to work today (Friday). Got lots done in terms of data inputting our volunteer shifts. Picked up Kate and we had some Tapas at the London Club this evening.

I've also finalised the blog and updated my year 2 in review posting

Thursday 12 January 2012

Day Nine Hundred and Forty Four

Thursday

Another day off after night of getting up and coughing lots in the bathroom before going back to bed and then doing it all again a few hours later.

Didn't do much in during the day apart from sit in front of TV.

Hard to believe a year ago we were facing the flood crisis outside...

Day Nine Hundred and Forty Three

Wednesday

Took the day off today, felt like crap with headache and cold. Daytime telly really is crap too!

Had a brief Skype call with UK in evening and catch up call afterwards with Carol in Sydney.

Tuesday 10 January 2012

Day Nine Hundred and Forty Two

Tuesday

A very restless night trying to sleep, probably because of the weather

http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/wicked-weather/brisbane-swelters-all-night-as-heat-hits-us-between-the-sheets/story-e6frep3x-1226240453341

Quote....(source couriermail.com.au)

Brisbane experienced an uncomfortable night’s sleep, with the official temperature hitting 26.7C, but taking into account the humidity of 85 per cent, the apparent midnight temperature was 32.5C.

It cooled a little in the early hours, but barely, the lowest apparent temp being 29.3 at 3.30am.

It was even warmer earlier in the evening, the apparent temperature peaking around 33 at 9pm

Not pleasant. Got a bit of a cold, not unexpected as lots of people have been ill and flying doesn't help.

A normal day at work then headed home. Kate worked late as she was offered overtime so I picked her up at 8.30pm.

Monday 9 January 2012

Day Nine Hundred and Forty One

Monday

Back to reality, dropped Kate to work and headed back to office to catch up on emails and get back into the event for 2012.

Picked up Kate, went and did a big shop and then headed home.

Day Nine Hundred and Forty

Sunday 8th January 2012

Was glad to avoid this by flying a day earlier than this exact same flight

http://www.watoday.com.au/travel/travel-incidents/father-describes-nightmare-qantas-flight-20120108-1ppyh.html

Had a light brekkie and had a leisurely day around the house in Willoughby with a lovely roast lamb lunch.

As we headed to the airport storms broke out over Sydney, all seemed OK but this resulted in Kate and I sitting on the plane for one and three quarter hours as the tarmac was closed so no dispatchers/baggage handlers could service the plane.

We finally got back to Brisbane at about 11pm and home at 11.30.

Back to reality tomorrow.

Saturday 7 January 2012

Day Nine Hundred and Thirty Nine

7th January 2012

Saturday, a leisurely morning in Willoughby with bacon and eggs for breakfast, last cooked brekkie as diet starts on Monday. We had a not bad nights sleep despite jet lag sleeping from 12.30am through to 6am.

We waved goodbye to Chris and Hannah as they headed back to Adelaide and in the afternoon Kate dropped me in Paddington to join Paul on his Stag activities. A picture below of the lucky bride, I mean stag.

I headed home and saw Kate briefly before she headed out to join Pru on her hens night.

Day Nine Hundred and Thirty Eight

6th January 2012

We stopped in Singapore briefly and had a croissant and tea each before getting back on the plane.

Finally we arrived in Sydney at 8.15 and cleared the airport about an hour later and were kindly picked up by Bill and Carol.

We arrived back at Willoughby and shared present opening with Bill, Carol, Chris and Hannah. We received some lovey gifts of books and clothing and other items.

A much need shower at midnight and we soon enough crashed.

Glad we read this after we had touched down

Day Nine Hundred and Thirty Seven

5th January 2012

Up early and Alv and Crystal drove us up to Heathrow just before 7am and we got there at 8am or thereabouts. We checked in and said our goodbyes before heading through to departures. Goodbyes are never easy especially with no specific plan for our next meet up but looking forward to Skype catch ups in the meantime.

Boarded the flight and took off about 11.30am.

An uneventful but long flight to Singapore.

Day Nine Hundred and Thirty Six

4th January 2012

We spent the day in Yateley all day doing final bits of paperwork and UK name and address changes while we were in blighty.

Said goodbye to my wonderful sister Hazel in the afternoon before a greasy fish and chip supper and off to bed before early start tomorrow.

Day Nine Hundred and Thirty Five

3rd January 2012

A super windy day in the UK today. Some pics can be seen here

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/in-pictures-16391740 (Picture 1 is Southsea, the Steward favourite)

We drove through the wind and rain to Farnham to visit Hazels shop, she was unfortunately out on deliveries when we arrived.

We drove to Reading to do some shopping, before hitting the shops we had lunch in Jamie Olivers Italian, even scoring a two for one voucher off the waiter so lunch was half price.

http://www.jamieoliver.com/italian/reading

Lots of clothes shopping and other things before heading home.

In the evening we went to the Four Seasons to celebrate Crystals 65th birthday. Was a very nice evening surrounded by family.

Day Nine Hundred and Thirty Four

January 2nd 2012

We drove up to London to see Heather and Neil and the kids. We were joined by Kay and Keith with Lily as well as Marianne S. Later we were joined by Charlotte and Tim.

We had lunch in The Bishop

http://www.capitalpubcompany.com/the-bishop/

and when the girls took the kids to the park the boys had a drink in the East Dulwich Tavern

http://www.eastdulwichtavern.com/

Soon enough we had to drive home and ended up via dodgy Sat Nav instructions got caught up in traffic around Hammersmith.

Arrived home to another Crystal favourite Beef Wellington, yummy.

Later in the evening we headed over to Rob and Jo's to say goodbye to them and baby Isla before we head home to Oz.

Day Nine Hundred and Thirty Three

January 1st 2012

New Years Day

A quiet day spent around the house in Yateley relaxing. Lovely roast chicken for dinner.
